He left it late, but for the second year in a row Traumprinz comes through with December music: 16 new, original tracks over the course of a 90 minute set. I already know that this will be one of the pieces of music I return to next year. Thumping, emotional ambient-leaning techno from the undisputed master.
I had a sudden epiphany halfway through listening to Croatian Amor’s new album Remember Rainbow Bridge. “Jesus christ – he’s Traumprinz!” He’s not, obviously, but listening to the yearning, nostalgia-inducing tones of Young Adult, Common Nettle – with its billowing synths and samples of ravers waxing lyrical about life in a drug-induced moment of existentialism “‘You don’t have to wait for death to experience ecstasy”), I hope you’ll forgive me for momentarily thinking I’d cracked the Greatest Enigma In The History of Electronic Music ™.
Traumprinz is back, with a new alias, and another epic 3 hour drop of music. lost in dreams is the latest collection from the anonymous producer and follows last year’s double DJ Metatron / The Phantasy release, which, even though there were unquestionably some gems in there, I didn’t rate quite as highly as most of their previous work. lost is dreams is an absolute masterpiece though, reminiscent of his dj healer set from a few years back. It is truly remarkable that someone this talented has completely removed their ‘self’ from their art, and delivers such an insane amount of incredible music without ever feeling the need to revel in the glory that would inevitably come from unmasking themselves. Long may it continue.
Why stop at four aliases when you can just keeping making up new ones? DJ Healer / DJ Metatron / Traumprinz / Prince Of Denmark recently announced two double EPs under a new moniker, The Phantasy, and – obviously – it’s great. As usual it’s vinyl only and also as usual it sold out about in about a minute, however all the tracks are now up on YouTube. Usually I wouldn’t condone this kind of behaviour, but as this is the only way the 95% of us who love the music but aren’t prepared to pay insane prices on Discogs will ever get to hear it, I think it’s probably fine.
There’s also a new DJ Metatron album Loops Of Infinity (A Rave Loveletter) that I haven’t even had a chance to listen to yet, but I’m pretty confident will also be exquisite. I’ve said it before: what a time to be alive.
DJ Healer (aka Traumprinz, DJ Metatron and various others) just posted three new mixes comprised of 100% new and unreleased material, and I am really very excited about this. I haven’t even started on the other two, but Ins Herz der Dine Lauschen [Listen to the heart of things] is delicate, melancholy, sun-bleached ambient and electronica, and jesus christ it’s fucking amazing. Check his Soundcloud page for the other two. What a time to be alive.
EDIT: I literally just cried listening to this. Actual tears.
Today I wanted to take a moment to highlight one of my favourite electronic records ever produced. Traumprinz’s remix sounds nothing like the original, but is for me absolutely perfect. I can’t even being to estimate how many times I’ve listened to this, and if you’re never listened to DJ Metatron’s (one of his many, many pseudonyms) This Is Not… mix in which this features, then you’re in for a treat. Utterly sublime.
