While the majority of us have been patting ourselves on the back for avoiding alcohol for an entire month, or looking at festival lineups with a curious mix of hope, anxiety and outright terror, Patricia Taxxon has already released two entire albums, the latest of which, Gloria, includes this soothing, glitchy gem. Her output is hard to keep up with, especially given the almost celebratory inaccessibility of some of it, but this is definitely one that hits the mark.
Nova Scotia-born and Detroit-raised producerBlack Noi$e put out his debut album OBLIVION last week on Earl Sweatshirt’s Tan Cressida label which, over the course of an extremely lean 24 minutes, is packed with some pretty punchy features, including Danny Brown, Mr. Sweatshirt himself, and my personal favourite, duendita. Glitch is moody and sinister, built from tight loops and even tighter drums, with duendita’s vocal moving from low drawl to soaring melodies absolutely effortlessly.
It’s a question I’ve asked before on this blog, but how can something this good get some little attention? I mean obviously I know: people have precious little time and for some people trawling through every record releases in a given week isn’t (shockingly) what gets them out of bed in the morning. But still. At time of writing Crush is currently sitting on two (2!) views on YouTube, and though it’s faring a little better on other streaming platforms, it’s deserving of way, way more people knowing about it as it’s literally better than 99% of music I’ve heard this year. So come on people – GET ON THIS. Oh yeah, and it’s kinda glitchy, hyperactive, bassy techno/breaks etc (you know, that vibe).
Allsides is a joint project of Polish artists Z ^ L ^ X, Gap The Boy and Jakub Dudek, who also appears as a featured artist. I’m In Love… is wonderfully glitchy electronica with some lovely melodies floating behind the crushed drums and percussion, and a bleepy lead synth that holds everything together. It’s the lead track from their new LP Toy Division, which is varied, at times challenging, and definitely worth a listen.
