The press text for the new album by Danish quintet Lowly includes the baffling line “Of all their releases thus far, Softy feels the most like Lowly”. What the hell does this actually mean? That their previous three albums were them trying (and failing) to sound like themselves? Anyway, despite this ludicrous word porridge, Softly is undoubtedly a return to form after 2023’s disappointing Keep Up The Good Work, with closer Xclouds encapsulating both the emotional heft and dreamy atmosphere of what defines much of their best work.
