DJ Python – Marry Me Maia

i was put on this earth is DJ Python’s debut EP for XL Records and his first solo release since 2022. Across five tracks, Python (Brian Piñeyro) gently forays into uncharted territory as a singer, producer and collaborator. For me, his 2020 LP Mas Amable is still the high watermark, and I do wish he’d return to that hypnotic style, but until that happens Marry Me Maia will more than do.

Natural Wonder Beauty Concept – Sword

Natural Beauty Wonder Concept is the new project from DJ Python and Ana Roxanne, both of whom I love. There’s an album due out in July, primarily recorded during covid days, and this is the first single. It’s great, and not even the press release describing the LP as “two artists learning to be alone, together” (🤮) can dull my enthusiasm.

DJ Python – I’m Tired

First single from a forthcoming split EP alongside Nick León on worldwide unlimited. I wondered if I would have liked this if it wasn’t by old Peezy. Guess I’ll never know. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ¯_(ツ)_/¯

DJ Python – Angel

DJ Python moves from the dark, claustrophobic polyrhythms that made 2020’s Mas Amable such a moody delight towards something far more warm-hearted and accessible with latest single Angel, a gentle 10 minute opus that skips merrily along on a broken beat, shards of sunlight glinting hazily off its soft corners and buoyant chords: perfect for sending you (or me, at least) off into the weekend with a smile and long overdue sense of optimism.

DJ Python – ADMSDP (feat. LA Warman)

It’s a little unfair to post just a single track from DJ Python’s impeccable album Mas Amable, as it really needs to be listened to in its entirety to do it justice. Mas Amable plays out at a single tempo with seamless (and lengthy) transitions between the individual tracks, employing broken rhythms and hushed tones to create an atmosphere that’s both hypnotic and otherworldly. It’s really special, and reminds me of that incredible Voices From The Lake album from a few years back. ADSMSDP is an 11-minute epic that probably best represents the album as a whole, but I’d definitely recommend committing to the entire thing.
